Create With Dry Goods Activity

Beans, pasta, rice, and more!

All you need for this activity is some dried goods, glue, and a paper plate, piece of paper, or cardboard! Open up those cupboards and search for any dried goods that might work for the artwork - the more variety, the better!

Here are some ideas: beans, pasta, rice, lentils, split peas, quinoa

Getting Started: Put a little of each dried good in separate bowls or on separate plates. Using the different dried goods, get creative on the paper or cardboard! You might choose to do a mosaic while your child might create a scene. For smaller grains like rice and quinoa, it helps to put the glue on the paper plate/paper/cardboard first.

Creative Tip: Discuss ideas and imagine the possibilities together before creating! You might choose to use a pencil to sketch out your plan first.

Extra Fun: Consider using paint on the art once it has dried.

Warning: Dry goods such as dried beans are a choking hazard for young children so be sure your child is old enough, will not put these dry goods in their mouth, and monitor your children to ensure safety.

Have fun imagining together!
